Breaking ground April 29th 2025, Kindred is a hybrid senior affordable housing project and family affordable housing in Cortez Hill. It was built using former San Diego County land as part of their goal to build more affordable housing countywide. It consists of a total of 126 units, those being 59 for seniors, 1 for an onsite manager for the senior housing, and 66 units for families. 89 of the units are one bedrooms, 19 two bedrooms, and 19 three bedrooms including the onsite managers unit. Residents of the senior portion, residents will receive medical care from San Ysidro Health. Social Services are available for all residents.

Many of the seniors who will be housed were previously homeless, currently living in homeless shelters. And for the family units they are for people making between 30% and 60% Area Median Income (AMI).

Per What Now San Diego's Midhun Hari and Annesha "San Diego has partnered with the county and BRIDGE Housing to develop the project. To fund the project, SDHC has provided a loan of $7.9 million, and the county has invested $4 million from its Innovative Housing Trust Fund. The county’s surplus land that is being used for the project is worth about $6.9 million as well. Funding has also been pooled in from other sources" while the project total is $102 Million, so a significant portion is was privately funded thru Bridge Housing.

The project location is nearby the 4th and 5th Ave Bikeways, the Beech Street Bikeway, MTS 3 and 120 bus services, and uphill from 5th Ave Trolley Station. It is a mixed use project due to the zoning of the area so has ground floor retail along 6th Avenue.
