Alvarado Creek Park is a proposed park serving as an addition to the larger San Diego River Park Master Plan. Spanning nearly a mile in length, the project will serve as the backbone of the neighborhood, surrounded by dense urban development. However, the park isn't all fun and games, serving a much more serious purpose - preventing floods during storms by widening the width of the channel as well as increasing the heights around it, using this extra space for the riverfront park - mostly protected on top of the banks of the river. The park will have a shared multi-use path from end to end, connecting to Waring Road to the east and the San Diego River Park to the west, with several bridges across the park connecting to Grantville station. Additionally, as part of the larger San Diego River Park Master Plan, surrounding canyons and creeks will be be connected to the river, allowing for a larger park connected to more of the city.
